Honestly, one of the best surf coaching schools in Ericeira. The coaches are down to earth, fun and have extensive knowledge on the local waves and surf scene. Big up to Afonso for helping me improve my technique and confidence in the water and taking us to the best local spots. Will definitely choose backyard over the plethora of other mass-market, overcrowded surf schools around. 🌊👌

I'm really glad I found BSC and Afonso. The sessions with only a few people (or private) are really valuable. Especially the video coaching helped me to improve and correct my surfing. Afonso gave very detailed and specific tips during the sessions and on the basis of the video's of my surfing. I also received a list of things that go well and how I can improve. This really helped me to focus. Afonso is very motivating and friendly and overall a warm-hearted person. I couldn't wish for a better surf coach and highly recommend him and BSC. BSC really focusses on coaching and improvement, which is exactly what I was looking for. I will definitely go back to surf with them.

Best surf experience ever. Very professional, punctual and reliable, but still fun and passionate. We always have the best time while improving our surf or skateboarding skills with them. Big big recommendation!

I highly recommend backyard surf coaching, Ericeira. The quality of the coaching was excellent. To begin with, my surfing abilities were analysed, and my strengths/weaknesses were identified (both in the water and using video support). As a result of this analysis, I was provided with a clear set of goals, which we worked on during the remainder of the coaching sessions. This personalised training was highly beneficial, and I observe a marked improvement of my technique after only a few sessions! I will keep focusing on these goals during future sessions on my own. Afonso is a kind, competent and dedicated coach, always generous with his time. He made sure to choose the best-suited spots for our sessions, taking size and crowds into account. We also trained using a surf-shaped skate, to practice turns and body weight distribution on the board, and which would otherwise have taken a long time in the water. The overall experience was very enjoyable and extremely motivational. I highly recommend BSC, and am looking forward to going back in the future.

I strongly recomend backYARD if you want to improve your surfing skills, Afonso is really devoted to help you, transmites you confidence inside and outside water and gives a lot of local knowledge. Surf sessions are complemented with skate lessons, both are personalized according to what you need to improve and your goals. From my experience this trainnings helped me to evolve more than I ever expeted.

My sons had a pleasure to be coached by Afonso Tornelli for 3 days this august. Afonso is an excellent surf coach, very professional, prompt, super friendly and fun. Both boys are intermediate surfers (have been on high school surf team for 4 years each) said that they improved significantly after 1 day with Afonso. Highly recommend 10 out 10!

I had a "surf-skate" class with Afonso, and I can honestly say that if you want to improve your surf technique this is an absolute game-changer. You get unlimited "waves" and really detailed feedback that allows you to correct bad habits and learn the right postures. There is a lot of repetition, which you don't really get when surfing, and this is super helpful to practice and get your muscle memory going. I can't wait to hop in the water and put my new skills to the test!

I was curious about trying surf skate because I started surfing last year. I heard about backYard project and I had my first lesson. It was amazing. In the begining I was a bit scares but with the help of the instructor I was confinent enougth. I will do it again. It is a great way to improve surf skills.

I started last November training with Chico and I'm even more addicted to surf and trainings than before! Chico (and I know that Afonso too) is a great coach, instructor and person. He gives you very good advice, good objectives in each session, and he will always find a way to motivate you even after a frustrating session. Also, I was not expecting to learn so much from video analysis and skate sessions! Backyard is not just having surf lessons, it's a complete training that changes your surf, make you love it more and that creates real experiences (and friends !)

I took a surfskate lesson, and I really enjoyed clear explanations, well structured training with many exercises, and all the tips. I feel that I know what to do on a surfskate now!

Chico war mein Ansprechpartner und Coach für private und Gruppen-Surfsessions, sowie für Surf Skate Sessions zur Optimierung meiner Technik. Der Portugiese ist super sympathisch und emphatisch, korrekt, fachlich top, sehr zuverlässig und hat für meine Trainings-Sessions immer die besten Wellen gefunden. Trotz meiner "kurzen Zeit" hat er schnell meine Schwachstellen erkannt, so dass wir gleich gezielt daran arbeiten konnten. Ich kann backYard Ericeira nur empfehlen, besonders, wenn man Einheimische unterstützen möchte. Ich werde auf jeden Fall wieder kommen. Danke Chico für das perfekte Coachen.

Amazing trainers! Their intention to have small surfing group, helps significantly with the individual feedback, while surfing already. This helped me in understanding the techniques and my mistakes to improve my surfing skills. I would fully recommend to subscribe/register for the backYARD Ericiera, also fun moments guaranteed!!

Very good private surf lessons by passionate coaches. By combining theory about the ocean and waves with skate training and long surfing sessions your surf skill will increase quickly. An awesome experience, with detailed evaluations and cool videos and photos of you riding the waves!

I had a great experience with Backyard's team in Ericeira. I am moving from a beginner to intermediate level in surfing and the Backyard was perfect to help me improve my surfing. I learned a lot from the video analysis and the surf skate lessons. I highly recommend and will use their services again for sure. Cheers guys!

I've only taken surfskating lessons from them so can't say anything about surfing itself... but my skating progress only after few sessions was unreal! Great teaching and very attentive. One could see that the coach (Alfonso) knew what he was talking about, regarding both skating and surfing. Definitely recommended!
